Async video messaging: Another route to productive remote work
October 8, 2021 -Matthew Finnegan
Due to crucial conditions for connecting remote workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, where companies tend to clone face-to-face conversations in real-time communications, that resulted in compact and complex schedules and catching colleagues that work from different time zones.
With this, software vendors collaborate to offer “asynchronous” (or async) video messaging to lessen the demands of workplace communication during the pandemic. Async video messaging works as that there is a pre-record of a short video (or audio) message to send to colleagues who can watch it whenever it’s convenient, thus without arranging a meeting at a most inconvenient time, and for staff with flexible schedules.
Below are some useful ways Async video messaging offer:
a. possible to request feedback on a project
b. celebrate team wins
c. share update without everyone present at the same time
d. serve as knowledge content repository
Mathew also mentioned these two platforms that already used similar features are Slack and Cisco.
Angela Ashenden, principal analyst at CCS Insight said, “ The growth of asynchronous is a realization that we need to manage our workloads better,” which resulted in a huge reaction towards real-time engagement with video conferencing and meetings that affects a lot of workers.
