World Mental Health Day special: How HR leaders prioritized and nurture mental health

The World Mental Health Day 2021, was celebrated last last October 10, 2021. During the event, The human resources online had come up with special feature to celebrate and create awareness on World Health Day 2021, where leaders coming from multi-national companies shared how they prioritized mental health.
Leaders shared messages on how mental health should be prioritized and exercised. They believed that there is no robust influence that comes from you and your peers to take care of yourself and your loved ones.
Chua Chai Ping, HR Director, Experian Malaysia said “I do also do a little green detox - by taking some time to walk out to my home garden and have a look at my plants. I think I have accumulated over 100 varieties of plants to promote biodiversity in my garden.”
Jen Wu, VP, People, APAC & EMEA, TEAM LEWIS added “Showing vulnerability is probably one of the hardest yet most necessary traits leaders should have today.”
Jenpakorn Veerachayapornpong, Vice President People and Culture, Pacific Healthcare Group, said that “My simple act to boost mental wellbeing before and after any meeting, presentation, or decision making is to do the breath focus or belly breathing.”
Ingo Laubender, Head of People, foodpanda said “One of the most powerful yet simple ways is to give employees the trust and autonomy to work towards their own goals at their own time.”
Regan Taikitsadaporn, Chief Human Resources Officer at Marriott International shared “We should not underestimate the power of checking-in with our team and going beyond the basic “how are you?”.
Paying attention and understanding how your individual subordinates are doing, and showing some empathy for what they’re carrying-off, and help to build a strong foundation of trust and team camaraderie has resulted to a more positive and productive workforce.
