The delay of the planned membership contribution hike would have an impact on several initiatives of the Philippine Health Insurance Corp., a representative of the state insurer said on Wednesday.

After President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. postponed the tariff hike, PhilHealth senior manager for corporate relations Rey Balea stated that the agency's severe acute malnutrition treatment and outpatient package for mental health will need to be altered.

According to Balea in an interview with "Headstart" on the ABS-CBN News Channel, "These new benefits, just like our outpatient benefit for mental health and the outpatient therapeutic care for severe acute malnutrition, which are both due for rollout this year, will continue to be implemented but with some adjustments."

The government insurer's Konsulta benefit package may also be modified, the PhilHealth source noted. Medical check-ups, health screening and evaluation, laboratory and diagnostic testing in selected clinics, and certain medications are all included in the Konsulta package of services.

Maybe we'll just change the proportion of the population that this will initially cover. But the Konsulta initiative will undoubtedly continue, according to Balea.

The modifications will be discussed by the PhilHealth board during its meeting on Wednesday.

Marcos authorized the execution of the premium rate rise as the Filipino people struggle with the financial hardships brought on by the COVID-19 epidemic.

According to past statements made by PhilHealth and the Department of Health, premium payments are intended to support the increase of services in compliance with the law requiring universal health care.

Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the government also halted the premium contribution hikes in 2020 and 2021.
